JR's Southern Biscuits

2 cups sifted flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 cup margarine (can be as little as 1/4 cup)
2/3 cup milk

Sift dry ingredients into a medium mixing bowl. Cut in margarine until the size of coarse bread crumbs. Make a well; add milk all at once. Stir quickly with a fork just until the dough follows the fork around the bowl.

Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently 10-12 times. Roll or pat dough to 1/2" thickness. Dip biscuit cutter in flour; cut straight down. Place on an ungreased baking sheet or baking stone. Bake in 450 degree oven about 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
